John HARRIS

He was tried at Old Bailey, London on 26 May 1784 for stealing silver spoons with a value of 60 shillings. He was sentenced to transportation for life having been originally sentenced to death, and left England on the Scarborough aged about 27 at that time (May 1787). His occupation was listed as wax chandler.

Notes: Guilty of return from transport following the Mercury mutiny. Founder of the night watch. Described as Jewish because he swore on the Old Testament when giving evidence.Lived with Mary Green on Norfolk Island and had three children.
